Plant partners 1.  Like a sort of male pattern baldness in reverse, teasel and echinops have a similar and distinctive flowering habit.

Make yourself cut back the flowering stems and foliage of spring performers like Pulmorara and Mahonia- after they have done their bit. The plants will be much healthier as a result.

Designed for long term, plant a standard bay, prostrate Euphorbia  in a large container. Add Blue grasses every year or two. Plant in John Innis no.3, multi-purpose compost and some horticultural grit.

Heavy snow may snap branches of trees and evergreens. Prune these neatly back to the main stem when the weather starts to warm. Be patient too with deadheading hydrangea and hold back the secateurs ‘til March.
